I was born and raised in Moscow, Idaho, where my father had his own tire store and my mother was a teacher. I graduated from Moscow High School in 1980 and attended the University of Idaho, where I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology in 1984. I graduated from the University of Washington Medical School in 1988 and completed my neurosurgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating in 1994. I am board certified in neurological surgery.
On a personal note, I met my wife when I was five years old. We went through high school together and were married in 1982 while both attending the University of Idaho. We have two children: Derek, who was born in 1986, and Erica, who was born in 1988. Our lives revolve around family and our church and we also enjoy skiing, backpacking, and golf.
The best thing about living in Coeur d’Alene, as I often tell people, is that when I go on vacation I always get to come back to paradise!
